Chair's Welcome

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the Governing Body section of the school’s website.  Whether you clicked on this page by chance or on purpose, please take a few moments to learn a little about the Governing Body.

What does the Governing Body do?

Kenningtons Primary Academy is a single academy trust.  This means that Kenningtons is not run by the local authority and neither is it part of a larger multi academy trust.  It therefore means that the Governing Body has overall responsibility for how the school is run and managed.

Governors:

  • Look at the big picture and the school’s long term goals to develop the school’s vision and strategy so that the school fulfils the needs of the children and those of the community it serves
  • Oversee the financial performance of the school ensuring the money is being spent effectively
  • Hold the Headteacher to account for the school’s academic results and to ensure every pupil has access to the best possible education
  • Have strategic and statutory responsibility for safeguarding and pupil welfare

Governors meet regularly (either as a full Governing Body or as smaller committees) and also visit the school to look at information and evidence to check on the school’s progress.

Who can be a Governor?

Most people can become a governor (there are a few exceptions but you must be 18 or over).  You do not need a background in education – in fact governors come from all walks of life and are able bring their individual skills and experience to the table.  Neither do you have to be a parent or carer.  Kenningtons’ Governing Body is made up of parents/carers, staff and other people from the local community.  They are all volunteers who are committed to support and help the school improve the education provision and experience of the pupils at Kenningtons.

If you are or know of anyone interested in getting involved as a governor, please contact the school either via the school office or by email to Jenny Green, Clerk to the Governors:
